Survey app owners are often hidden behind a brand name and a friendly logo. Two apps can look completely different and still be run by the same company.
That matters more than it sounds. The company behind an app shapes which surveys you see, who handles your personal data and who you deal with when a payout goes missing. We checked the terms, imprints, privacy policies and app-store listings of all 12 platforms in our Survey Sites & Apps directory in October 2026. Here’s who is behind each one.
📌 Quick answer: Several survey apps share an owner. Prime Insights runs Prime Opinion, Five Surveys, HeyCash, TopSurveys and EarnStar, and SocialLoop runs Survey Pop and Eureka. Qmee belongs to Kantar, Freecash to Almedia, NiceSurveys to Make Opinion and PaidViewpoint to Umongous. The owner matters because sister apps may offer similar surveys, and a named company is accountable for your data and payouts.

The two big families
1. Prime Insights: five apps from one company
Prime Insights lists Prime Opinion, Five Surveys, HeyCash, TopSurveys and EarnStar on its own website as its survey platforms, along with a sixth called Prime Earn. It says its panels have more than 20 million members across 60 countries.
The app-store listings show different company names, such as Prime Insights Group LLC and Five Survey AB. That’s common for a group that runs several brands through separate companies. What ties them together is that Prime Insights presents all of them as its own platforms.
Prime Insights itself changed hands recently. In September 2025, the Stockholm-based technology group Aonic announced it had bought the company for more than $250 million.
2. SocialLoop: Survey Pop and Eureka
SocialLoop LLC is named in the Survey Pop website footer and as the developer of the Eureka app on the App Store. The same developer account also publishes Survey Spin and Cash Arcade.
The independents (and one we couldn’t identify)
Qmee. Qmee began as an independent UK company. In May 2022, Kantar, one of the world’s largest market research groups, agreed to buy it and placed it in its Profiles division, which also runs the LifePoints panel. Qmee’s footer still says “Qmee Ltd”, but its current terms name Kantar UK Ltd as the company you deal with.
Freecash. Freecash’s terms name Almedia GmbH in Berlin as the operator, with a US company, Almedia USA, Inc., handling US gift-card transactions.
NiceSurveys. The NiceSurveys imprint names Make Opinion GmbH in Berlin, with a German commercial register number. On the App Store, the same developer account also publishes HeyPiggy.
PaidViewpoint. PaidViewpoint’s terms name Umongous, Inc., based in Marlton, New Jersey, and say New Jersey law applies.
Rewario Surveys. ⚠️ Rewario’s terms and privacy policy name only “Rewario Surveys” and a support email. We couldn’t find a registered company name or address. That doesn’t prove anything is wrong, but it does mean you have less information about who is responsible if something goes wrong.
Why the owner matters to you
Sister apps may show you similar surveys
Apps from one company can share technology and research partners. So joining all five Prime Insights apps probably won’t give you five times as many different surveys. We can’t see inside their systems, so treat this as a likely pattern rather than a rule.
It also explains a familiar experience: if you rarely qualify on one app, a sister app may not be much different. Our guide to why you get disqualified from paid surveys explains how screening works behind the scenes.
A named company is someone you can hold to account
The terms of service tell you which company your agreement is with and which country’s law applies. Qmee’s terms, for example, use the law of England and Wales, with New York law for US residents. If a payout dispute ever escalates, you need that company name.
The owner decides what happens to your data
The privacy policy names the “data controller”: the company responsible for your personal information. When several apps share an owner, data you give each app may end up with the same group. Check each app’s privacy policy for who the controller is and whether data is shared within the group.
Account rules are set app by app
Each app sets its own account rules. Freecash, for example, allows one account per person and one per household. Having accounts on two sister apps is a different question from having two accounts on one app, so read each app’s terms rather than assuming.
How to check who owns any survey app
You can do this for any app in about five minutes.
- Look at the website footer. Copyright lines and phrases such as “A product of…” often name the company.
- Open the terms of service. Near the top, look for “operated by” or the company the terms call “we”.
- Check for an imprint page. German and Austrian websites must publish one, with the legal name, address and register number.
- Read the privacy policy. Find the section that names the data controller.
- Check the app-store listing. The App Store shows a seller name; Google Play shows the developer’s contact details.
- Search an official register. Use UK Companies House, Germany’s commercial register or the business search of the relevant US state.
- Note what’s missing. If no company name appears anywhere, treat it as a reason for extra caution.
💡 Tip: The name in a footer isn’t always the legal company. Qmee’s footer says “Qmee Ltd”, while its terms name Kantar UK Ltd. When they differ, the terms are what count.
What this means if you join more than one app
If you want more than one survey app, spread your choices across different companies rather than within one family. For example, pair one Prime Insights app with one or two apps from other owners.
Within a family, choose the app whose reward style suits you, then compare how often you actually qualify. Our Top 10 paid surveys comparison sets out the main differences in payouts and cash-out rules.
Frequently asked questions
Who owns Prime Opinion?
Prime Opinion is one of the survey platforms run by Prime Insights, and its App Store listing names Prime Insights Group LLC. In September 2025, Aonic announced it had bought Prime Insights.
Are Five Surveys and Prime Opinion the same company?
They belong to the same group. Prime Insights lists both as its platforms, although the Five Surveys app is published under a separate company name, Five Survey AB.
Who owns Qmee?
Kantar. It agreed to buy Qmee in May 2022, and Qmee’s current terms name Kantar UK Ltd as the operator.
Who owns Freecash?
Freecash is run by Almedia GmbH, a company based in Berlin, according to its terms of service.
Can I join several apps from the same company?
Usually each app is a separate service with its own account, but rules vary. Check each app’s terms for account limits, and expect some overlap in the surveys you see.
Does sharing an owner make an app more or less trustworthy?
Not on its own. A clearly named company is one good sign, but you should still check payout rules, privacy terms and recent user feedback. Our guide to whether paid online surveys are legit covers the full checklist.
The bottom line
Behind 12 survey brands we found six companies, plus one app that doesn’t name its company at all. Prime Insights alone runs five of them.
Knowing the owner won’t change how much a survey pays. It does help you choose apps that add something new, know whose privacy rules apply, and know who to contact when something goes wrong.
